Re: best ftp server setup for noobie ??

I successfuly use vsftpd on a production server (& AL mirror) at ftp.kegep.tuc.gr so I can recommend it. You just need to change the line "disable = yes" to "disable = on" in /etc/xinetd.d/vsftpd and start xinetd. Check also 'man vsftpd.conf' for configuration options.
Proftpd is easier to setup & I was using it on my debian woody server for a long time, but vsftpd is more secure IMHO (proftpd had 2 advisories lately, plus redhat.com & openbsd.org use vsftpd smile) & more advanced.
I can send you some conf files if you want, send me your e-mail via pm for that.

symlink /etc/shells to /usr/etc/shells

Re: best ftp server setup for noobie ??

I'm getting this funky segmentation fault with Gproftpd anytime I try to add or apply changes to a server... the thing just crashes out...

Any ideas?
