hi guys
can anyone advise what to use for a basic ftp server for about 10 users with different passwords.
also some pointers on how to set it up would be nice.
i`ve installed vsftpd with pacman but not having much luck setting it up :oops:
trouble is i`m too used to using gui`s in windows, so i don`t suppose there is a gui for linux is there?

i`ve now got proftpd running and i have done a basic setup and i can connect to it. can anyone advise how to setup as mentioned above with mutiple user accounts plz

I successfuly use vsftpd on a production server (& AL mirror) at ftp.kegep.tuc.gr so I can recommend it. You just need to change the line "disable = yes" to "disable = on" in /etc/xinetd.d/vsftpd and start xinetd. Check also 'man vsftpd.conf' for configuration options.
Proftpd is easier to setup & I was using it on my debian woody server for a long time, but vsftpd is more secure IMHO (proftpd had 2 advisories lately, plus redhat.com & openbsd.org use vsftpd ) & more advanced.

boop - check out gproftpd, i have it in my TUR. GUI for proftpd and it kicks a fair amount of ass.

hi i`ve been trying to run gproftpd but i get this msg when it starts;
Cant open shells for reading here:
/usr/etc/shells
and also it wont let me create any users because it errors with;
The minimum shell length is 3 chars.
anyone know why ?

my problem now is i`ve created a user account called look and given it a password but when i try and connect to it i get this message from my server;
Connected to pcs333.myftp.org:8100
500 FTP server shut down (Sun Jan 11 23:49:58 2004 , Current connections will be dropped: Sun Jan 11 23:39:58 2004) -- please try again later
as far as i can work out my server is running so i dont know why its saying the server was shut down on jan 11th :cry:

I'm getting this funky segmentation fault with Gproftpd anytime I try to add or apply changes to a server... the thing just crashes out...
Any ideas?
