Allowing Live Messenger

I have iptables configured with Guarddog running, but apparently it blocks MSN services as well and I can't connect.

I believe I have to open some port, however I don't know which so help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Port 1863 is correct. At least, that's the port that's open on my firewall, and my MSN works smile

Re: Allowing Live Messenger

I connected successfully using Kopete. It must be a problem with Emesene as it is still malfunctioning.

I can't say that I have any port open in my firewall for msn as it is an outbound connection to 1863 and not an inbound connection.

I haven't lost my mind; I have a tape back-up somewhere.

I presumed the O/P was talking in the context of an Outbound firewall, but you have a good point. You don't need to open anything inbound to allow MSN to connect.

(And I have an Outbound firewall btw tongue)
