I have iptables configured with Guarddog running, but apparently it blocks MSN services as well and I can't connect.
I believe I have to open some port, however I don't know which so help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

According to pidgin, MSN uses port 1863

Port 1863 is correct. At least, that's the port that's open on my firewall, and my MSN works

I connected successfully using Kopete. It must be a problem with Emesene as it is still malfunctioning.

I can't say that I have any port open in my firewall for msn as it is an outbound connection to 1863 and not an inbound connection.
I haven't lost my mind; I have a tape back-up somewhere.

I presumed the O/P was talking in the context of an Outbound firewall, but you have a good point. You don't need to open anything inbound to allow MSN to connect.
(And I have an Outbound firewall btw )
