Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

hiya! been enthusiastically interested in linux since i was a teenager, fell in love with ubuntu around then, switched back to windows for a while since i was looking for better video game support before i came fully on board. after hearing about proton in 2018, my interest was very much piqued, but i waited until proton looked real good. i was convinced into trying linux again in 2022 with manjaro, but disliked the experience so much that i lost interest.

after sitting down in august 2024 and trying to seriously consider why i am still on windows; the reasons became slim. i decided that i liked manjaro, but i didn't like manjaro. the issue wasn't the system, it was what was done to it. manjaro flew in the face of what i expected from my system, and i was simply scared to try the install process out. it was well worth it. i finally made the swap to arch linux proper then and have settled there since, very comfortably.

i sorely miss only one program from windows: paint.net.. gimp does well for most of the things i need out of an editor, but i find its interface difficult to use, even after the 3.0 update. it's not that the program is incapable, FAR FROM IT! it's just my ~1,000 hours of experience making it tough lol. i've read people saying they like pinta as an alternative, and while i use it occasionally, it's a far from desirable experience, even if the spirit of the project is very admirable.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello all,

I am completely new to linux, but I loved the idea of Arch, so I decided to give it a try. I opened up the wiki and get started - and honestly, it's the best wiki I've ever seen. So many details and it helped me a ton with my installation. Now I am running it, bought some Linux books to dive deeper into this system. I am currently running Arch with KDE Plasma and it's so amazing. Soon I will try Hyprland, but I want to get more comfortable with the system first.

Arch = My main system now smile !

Hello everyone.
I'm new to Linux, but I really want to switch. The biggest problem I'm facing right now is the L2TP protocol, as it's essential for my work. Without a VPN, I can't connect to my work sites. Can anyone suggest how to overcome this issue and fully switch to Linux? What articles on the forum should I read?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone! I installed Arch a couple weeks ago and run in some trouble with NVIDIA, but thanks to the forum, everything is fine now.

The main purpose of this system is gaming and is working very fine. I still getting about 10-15% fps drop in Cyberpunk in comparison with Windows, which is ok and not much noticeable.  I'm doing some tests with Proton GE to try to improve perfomance.

Hello I'm building an arch command center that lets me switch between arch des and other distros and their des.

Why choose when not must choose.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello world!

I am andj3ll0 (Angelo) and I'm new to the community. I've been learning about Linux for a few years now, and finally settled on Arch a couple days ago. I started out with Obuntu many years ago, but alas I am not nearly intelligent with code as many of you are here so I was unable to stick with it as a gamer at the time. I've tried Mint a couple years ago and that definitely helped me get a bit further with reducing my skill issues. I'm happy to say I figured out how to get my games running with Arch and I'm very excited to be apart of the community now! Thanks so much, and I hope to be acquainted with many of you.

o7,
Angelo

You could start by reading about Openswan
Then you could post your questions to Networking, Server, and Protection
