[SOLVED]Non-uniform application of icons with lxappearance and openbox

I've installed Arch on another computer and I can't get lxappearance to apply the icons correctly. I've seen and tried the suggestions in this thread but they didn't work.

The system has a fresh base install of Arch, up-do-date, with xorg and openbox. I've copied over my working icon theme (this one) from ~/.icons/ on this computer to ~/.icons on the other one.

When I open up lxappearance, it shows up on the icons panel and when I click on it, the demo icons change to the correct icons. When I apply it though, it does not change the icons in lxappearance or my other running apps (e.g. xpad). On this computer, applying an icon theme with lxappearance immediately changes all running gtk apps.

The theme is partially applied though. If I open a file selection dialogue in lxappearance, the dialogue uses the correct icons when displaying files.

Restarting X / rebooting the system has no effect.
The icon theme is correctly set in .gtkrc-2.0 (the line is identical on both computers).

So what gives? Am I missing a package on the new computer? Is there anything that could be conflicting with lxappearance on it? I haven't installed anything on the new computer that isn't on the old one. The only possible exception would be something included in the xorg group. The only other difference is that this computer is x86_64 and the other one is i686 (and older).

I doubt that it's related, but I'm having problems with fonts in Terminal too: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=497428
(and problems with certain resolutions in xorg.conf (packaged xvidtune because of it tongue ), apps not showing up in stalonetray, etc... I'd forgotten how frustrating it can be to set up a system)

Does anyone have any idea of what the f@#$ lxappearance's problem is? Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks.

*bump*

Anyone? There must be someone out there with lxappearance who knows what's wrong.

Maybe you could try out programs like gtk-theme-switch2 and/or gtk-chtheme just to find out if the problem is with lxappearance or something else.

Good idea, thanks.

*edit*
That didn't work... neither of them can change the icon themes.

Yeah lxappearance and other theme changers re-write the gtkrc file, so its advised to have a separate gtkrc-2.0.mine file.

Re: [SOLVED]Non-uniform application of icons with lxappearance and openbox

I've tried creating a .gtkrc-2.0.mine file with various combinations of my settings while commenting out combinations of them in .gtkrc-2.0, all to no effect. On this computer (the working one), there is no .gtkrc-2.0.mine file and the .gtkrc-2.0 files are identical so I suspect that it's something else.

I'm able to apply the gnome icon theme correctly using lxappearance so maybe there's something wrong with the icon theme itself although I don't understand how it could work on 64-bit without a problem and not at all on 32-bit.

Here's the icon theme if anyone wants to try it on their system: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show. … tent=70630

I'm having the exact same problem with the same theme on a new install. Xyne, did you ever find a solution to this one? It worked fine before reinstalling.

And I'm having sporadic problems with TTF fonts in urxvt as well. Coincidence?

Problem solved. You need to have tango-icon-theme installed for ALLBLACK to work.

Re: [SOLVED]Non-uniform application of icons with lxappearance and openbox

Installing the tango icon theme does fix the problem, but I don't have that package on this computer (which uses ALLBLACK without any issue). I don't get it but solved is solved.

Thanks Ashren.
