GMA 945 issues [Solved]

I've been trying to get DRI working for about two months now.  I have an EEE PC 1000HA, which I know has issues with GEM being in the driver and not the kernel, but now that 2.6.28 is out, it's still not working!

I've read several forums, and haven't found a single solution that works.  Previously on Gentoo, I could downgrade Xorg, Intel drivers, mesa, etc. and get 3D working again as a workaround, but the one topic on these forums that I found that suggested this did not work.  I am willing to try git drivers, downgrading packages, etc.  Whatever works!

xorg.conf:

Re: GMA 945 issues [Solved]

did you try it without any xorg.conf?

What does this mean?  I just provided my xorg.conf, are you suggesting it's wrong or I didn't provide it (which I did)?  This isn't really helpful.

did you try it without any xorg.conf?

Thanks for the suggestion, X works just the same as it does with my config, still no DRI.

Even though it says DRI is working, it just isn't.  Tuxracer plays at less then 1 fps, compiz fails to work, glxgears reports between 78-105 fps (this is NOT my refresh rate, so no vsync issue there).

Re: GMA 945 issues [Solved]

what about reinstall 2.3.2-1 intel video drivers?
You'll have to find an outdated mirror and downgrade other packages too.
Here's the log of my downgrade:
[2008-11-23 18:55] removed synaptics (0.14.6.99-2)
[2008-11-23 18:55] installed xf86-input-synaptics (0.99.1-1)
[2008-12-09 18:57] removed xf86-video-intel (2.4.3-1)
[2008-12-09 18:58] upgraded intel-dri (7.2-1 -> 7.0.3-1)
[2008-12-09 18:59] removed intel-dri (7.0.3-1)
[2008-12-09 19:01] upgraded xorg-server (1.5.3-3 -> 1.4.2-2)
[2008-12-09 19:02] installed intel-dri (7.0.3-1)
[2008-12-09 19:02] installed xf86-video-intel (2.3.2-1)
[2008-12-09 19:02] upgraded libdrm (2.3.1-2 -> 2.3.1-1)
[2008-12-09 19:03] upgraded libgl (7.2-1 -> 7.0.3-2)

Hope this will help.

Personally i stay FAR away from new intel drivers, as they not only have several issues with 3d performance, but hard tearing on xvideo extension with textured adaptor, older drivers had this too, but at least overlay surfaces to get a smooth video playback were stable.
New drivers are very like to crash my system when using overlay.

[2008-12-09 18:58] upgraded intel-dri (7.2-1 -> 7.0.3-1)
[2008-12-09 18:59] removed intel-dri (7.0.3-1)
[2008-12-09 19:01] upgraded xorg-server (1.5.3-3 -> 1.4.2-2)
[2008-12-09 19:02] installed intel-dri (7.0.3-1)
[2008-12-09 19:02] installed xf86-video-intel (2.3.2-1)
[2008-12-09 19:02] upgraded libdrm (2.3.1-2 -> 2.3.1-1)
[2008-12-09 19:03] upgraded libgl (7.2-1 -> 7.0.3-2)

I feel like this would work if the new versions of libdrm and xf86-video-intel were in the repository, what's the hold up?

Thanks, I am willing to give this a shot.  Any suggestions for an outdated mirror?

Re: GMA 945 issues [Solved]

xf86-input-synaptics is not in that reposity.  I can't find the version you specified.  I have everything else from the listed downgraded to the proper versions, and still not DRI.  Although this time, glxinfo does see that it's not working:

Re: GMA 945 issues [Solved]

I made a mistake with xf86-input-synaptic, the right one is synaptics.
Dunno why dri is not working, sorry.

Re: GMA 945 issues [Solved]

It doesn't help you any, but my dell mini gets about 105 fps in glxgears (fullscreen) with the same chipset.  However, I haven't found anything to suggest that this isn't SUPPOSED to be the case.  In fact I searched quite a bit and haven't found better results.

Re: GMA 945 issues [Solved]

Well, I had to downgrade several packages on my system(I have the Intel 945GM/950GMA), and here's what works in my case:

  [*]intel-dri-7.0.3-1
  [*]libgl-7.0.3-2
  [*]mesa-7.0.3-3
  [*]synaptics-0.14.6.99-2
  [*]xf86-video-intel-2.3.2-1
  [*]xorg-server-1.4.2-2

Using some rather experimental xorg.conf tweaks, I can achieve roughly 2200fps from glxgears. Did you find the guide I posted a while back by any chance?

Thanks, I tried this and still doesn't work.

This isn't right.  You apparently don't have DRI enabled as well, or have VSYNC enabled.

I checked to make sure all of the packages I had were the same as this list now that I've downgraded.  They are.

Since the new Intel drivers hit AUR, I think I'm going to try the unstable/bleeding-edge packages next to see if any of these work.

Re: GMA 945 issues [Solved]

Ah ha!  dmesg had the answer to this one.  /dev/dri/card* was failing to populate because the drm module was loading before intel-agp.  I have added intel-agp in rc.conf in front of drm and i915.  I now have DRI, yay!  Thanks for everyone's help.  Apparently this issue dates way back to 2.6.x kernel, but it hasn't been a big issue since most distro's already load the agpgart module first.

How do you downgrade this? I don't find a way to mask like in gentoo for instance.

Re: GMA 945 issues [Solved]

Or, if you deleted your old packages and can't find any outdated mirror,
install pacman-contrib and do a
bacman "packagename"
before upgrade it.
