Alright, well... I took a thorough look at the last dozen posts, and... given what you said, I apologise if I caused any embarassment. I'll edit the OP after this.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello Arch users.  Been using Linux since 2009. Been learning the whole time. Hope to pickup some more knowledge with Arch.
Learning Arch is like Ubuntu in 2009., I don't mind digging for info, as long as I can find it. I can't find it, so here I am. Be patient with me, I'm not quite "Arch literate" yet.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

hi! I have installed arch with kde as my DE i have a problem.

I have already tried installing arch 3 times but the problem seems to not be cured so plz help me if u know something.

i have already tried many methods like reading wiki other forums and many sites also but couldnt get the solution.

PROBLEM:
when i try to take a screenshot with any ss tool like spectacle flameshot or gnome ss it happens with each on eof them so i think there some problem in device instead of the specific app
so heres the thing when i capture screen via any tool it captures the screen which i was doing something before.

here is a eg for better understanding
i opened BRave started yt closed brave then i went to terminal and typed some commands and i want to take ss of that output i press the key for ss tools to launch and when i select any mod it will not take screenshot of termonal but of yt homepage which was opened way back before and the problem doesnt ends here if i try to take ss again it will not show me that yt hpmepage screen but might be other app which was open before it or even just the desktop.

this was my problem and i cant find its solution anywhere plz help me if possible
the work i do requires ss tool usage a lot and currently i have to take pic from my phoen which as u know wont come good as a ss.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

1. avoid using short-forms like ss/eof, it is difficult to understand.
2. start your application from terminal, use it. If you get any error output in the terminal please post here.
3. Are you using kde with wayland or X? I don't use kde so I have not much idea, but it may be possible that screenshot tools you are using may be incompatible with wayland.

EDIT: I missed that this is hello thread, please create a new thread for your question  in newbie corner or may be  moderator can move this.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

3 Years as a full time Linux user and I finally installed Arch thanks to "archinstall". I've distro hopped from Ubuntu then Manjaro then Arch. Arch is cool, fast and lightweight, I have gnome and my favorite apps installed and have only 1005 packages. I know it's controversial to run gnome on arch since they seem not share any principles, Arch is like Keep It Simple while Gnome is the most resource hungry desktop I've seen.
I'm no geek, though I have a thing for computers. I use arch to power my laptop for school (med school). 2 weeks with Arch and it meets my expectations (well apart from not updating gnome 41 in the official repo).

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

bonsoir
je suis nouveau et jai un probleme
jai installer wireshare et je souhaite faire une capture de trame du reseau ethernet mais j'optient ce message

The capture session could not be initiated on interface 'wlp2s0b1' (You don't have permission to capture on that device).
Please check to make sure you have sufficient permissions.

On Debian and Debian derivatives such as Ubuntu, if you have installed Wireshark from a package, try running

    sudo dpkg-reconfigure wireshark-common

selecting "<Yes>" in response to the question

Should non-superusers be able to capture packets?

adding yourself to the "wireshark" group by running

    sudo usermod -a -G wireshark {your username}

and then logging out and logging back in again

Hello everyone, nice to be part of the Arch wolfpack.

Decided to finally take the plunge so here I am. And now I get to tell people who didn't ask that I run Arch.

Looking forward to being told to read the docs for stuff I spent weeks researching about. big_smile

And truly glad to be on the forums interactively instead of only lurking. <3

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone, I'm from Toronto, Canada.

I'm old enough to remember DOS, young enough to still do stuff like this for fun.  My Chromebook Pixel LS got EOLed by Google in June, so it was off to Linux for me!

After a day with Mint, which seemed too easy and yet bloated, I decided to try out the radical simplicity of Arch yesterday, and I'm really feeling nostalgic for the 1990s now.  Running it with three different desktop environments, because why not.

Probably won't post that much (or at all?), as I do actually read the flippin' manual (and wikis, and discussion fora), but I figured I might as well get the timer going for when I do have questions that can't be answered with that.

Stay well, all.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi.

Not exactly a noob (been a happy Arch user for several years, in fact), but this time I haven't found the answer by simply lurking or looking for answers on the web in general and have been minded to create an account here to get an Arch specific solution from the Arch community itself.

So, here I am.

Hi smile

Hello World!

I first learned how to use Linux with Manjaro but felt it crap so I jumped into the Arch dungeon and it was never a bad decision.
Used MATE before but I'm just using Openbox. Rice is Life!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello Arch Linux Community,

Someone on Discord suggested that I should use Arch. After I installed it and got the basics done, I knew it was going to be amazing. It's my primary Linux distribution now, and my favorite too. It's such a simple operating system (not simple as in "easy to use", but simple as in you get only what you need) where you decide what goes in your system and what doesn't. Also, pacman is an amazing name for a package manager.
