Hi everyone!
Normally I daily drive Mint but decided to dip my toes in Arch.
Just installed Arch today by following the Wiki, with Xorg/SDDM/Plasma. It felt great! Hard but very satisfying!
I guess my next steps will be to go through the rest of "General Recommendations", figure out how to make Discover work with a backend, and so on.

I've started using Linux for my daily use recently. I used Ubuntu before, but I decided to install Arch on my machine. I'm really amazed about how fast it is and much freedom it gives me. Definitely, I'm not moving soon.

I am a shy person by nature but eager to learn something new everyday.
To bring something to perfection is what drives me to use and improve Arch Linux.

I stick mostly around the Wiki and the AUR to help fixing bugs or to do other little improvements.

Hello all!

I really dove into the deep end here with Arch, but having that sheer control back is completely worth it! I am new to Linux in general, but have been using Arch on my laptop for over a year now and just finally switched over on my desktop. I hope to soon get comfy with Arch enough to the point that I could be a regular contributor, but I know I have a long road ahead of me! Lots of bugs to squash and improvements to make!

I have been meaning to install Arch for quite a long time now, but I have never been able to get very far with it, partly through a lack of available time and partly through a lack of available hardware. I installed it in a VM about five years ago, but didn't continue studying it due to a combination of hardware disasters and time constraints.

I have been involved with support and troubleshooting of UNIX and Linux systems and networks for nearly forty years, and the "build-your-own" minimalist approach appeals to me.

I hope to become actively involved in these forums.

Old dogs can learn new tricks.

Hi Everyone!

I've been using linux on and off since 15 years, started with ubuntu and one day i discovered about rolling relase distros.
Rolling release distros are very fascinating to me so i tried manjaro for a bit witch i thought it was very cool! In my heart i've always knew Arch was better but i was scared about the installation process.
Few days ago i decided to mess around with arch in a virtual machine.. i installed it so many times that at the end i felt ready to install it for real.

Now i'm very happy, the wiki is amazing, it allows me to learn so much!
The customization possibilities are endless!

Right now i'm on a dual both with windows so i can mess around as much i want, sadly the majority of working applications are for windows only.
I dont like anything about windows, the only reason i use it is because of windows only applications, but i hope one day to completely get rid of it!

Being on Arch makes me feel really accomplished, sadly noone aroud me knows about linux, so i cannot share my happiness with friends or family!

I want to thank the Arch communuty for creating this world, A world where anyone willing to read the wiki can accomplish great things!

hi all!!

my introduction to linux was about a decade ago now -- i got a box of old software from my uncle who used to build gaming rigs and mess around with ops stuff, and mandrake linux 3.0 was in that box. the display drivers didn't work, but i soldiered on and ended up reformatting the family computer's hard drive! after that catastrophe, i played around with a bunch of different distros (arch included!), and settled on kubuntu for a while before getting lazy and leaning on my mac throughout college.

now i'm here! trying to get back in the game! did some fresh installs in virtualbox for practice and now i'm trying to get into the nitty gritty of making a computer tick from a software perspective specifically. thanks for reading! hope to have some extremely nerdy conversations here

Hello,
I just started using Arch in an old laptop I thought was useless (Lenovo E420), but with Arch it runs very fast.
Very nice experience so far. Using it because of the nice programs it has (clementine, freewolf, and the package managers).
The package repositories and managers are awesome. Automatic, but you can see what is going on.

Hello all,

New to Arch, been in the Linux world for awhile. I was fed up with the OS getting in the way of what I was trying to do, and hindering me from working. Decided to switch all my devices to Arch, and haven't looked back. I also just wanted to be able to say Arch (btw)...that's probably my primary motivator.

Hello everyone, my first experience with any Linux based software was actually tux paint.

I just wanted to include that in there, have really fond memories of it.

The first distro I tried was dual booting Linux mint a few years ago on a laptop with windows 10, back then I didn't know anything about Linux and I was downloading software using tarballs. Now recently with the release of windows 11, I'm getting kind of tired with the mess that is windows update bloat, uninstalling programs leaving files in multiple places and the way the files are arranged. So while I won't switch to Arch on bare metal for a while (but definitely before 2025, when windows 10 reaches end of life). I have been using it inside Oracle VM VirtualBox and I have been having a lot of frustration (in a good way) and fun. One anecdote: I use Vim btw so obv I used autohotkey in windows to map my caps lock to escape and then when I tried the same thing on Arch all I had to do was use xmodmap with xcb (to look up key codes). Don't get me wrong autohotkey is an excellent software but the fine control that Linux and especially distro like Arch allow me make me feel like I actually own my computer and am free to do with it as I please while windows feels like the system is telling me what I can or can't do.
