Clean and Simple would be the Terminal screen alone.
In 2015 there's no reason to use a GUI.

tranqil any thoughts on sharing some of your widgets? I have been on a hunt for perfect widgets for some time and I like the look of some of yours

@tranqil
I am trying to copy your setup, but the problem is that I don't have timer.lua inside gears. Can you provide the code for this ? I have searched online to no avail.
Either way, thanks.

Actually, never mind. Just realized I don't need the line
timer = require("gears.timer")
Thanks either way.

any chance you mind sharing your config? would be nice to see how one puts icons as tag icons

I will share my config as soon as I get everything tidied up. Meanwhile, those icons are not icons, but FontAwesome glyphs. Just use something like
theme.taglist_font = "FontAwesome 12"
in your theme.lua and then maybe something like utf8.char(0xf120) for your tag's name (the terminal glyph, in this case).
Very nice config d125q
Thanks. Again, I will share as soon as I'm able to. Meanwhile, the widgets come from lain and the colors are, as you have probably guessed, solarized dark.

Desktop;
Autostarted and automatically placed :
1'st - AUX - Cairo Dock, on screen / floating
2'nd - NET - Firefox, Thunderbird and KTorrent / magnified
3'rd - MEDIA - DeadBeef, SMPlayer / tiled
4'th - STAT - htop, script watching df, script monitoring temperature of various system components / tiled
5'th - TERM - fullscreen terminal / magnified
Every application is configured in a way that it can be controlled via keyboard only, via mouse only, or by combination of both. Very useful in different scenarios - controls feels equally good when writing in Vim while sitting in chair and when browsing yt on couch.
Every application is themed in a way that everything is dark/gray.
It's easier for the eyes.
Netbook;
No automatic placement, since it's for work only and my workflow may be chaotic at times.
Config contains many redundant key bindings, and some weird stuff too ( up-arrow disabled in zsh because of Eee 900 keyboard, for example. )
Both configs use compton composition manager, because of fading between windows and desktops. To sooth the nerves
Overall - since about 2-3 years AwesomeWM is my favourite WM of all. It's just perfect. The only thing I'm missing is kde-like mouse gestures ( expo plugin? ) There's Compiz fork hacked from WM status somewhere out there... But it won't compile anymore. Using it as an overlay for Awesome would be just... AWESOME ;]

I've been looking for a sweet keyboard centric VM. I was afraid to switch to any of these layoutcentric VMs but I tried AWM and I love it. Plasma is still on here just in case I run into a weird bug. But so far, I dig it.

Awesome WM is great and can't wait to learn more about it.
Cheers.
