Re: Xyne's repos: news and discussion

Welcome back, Ranguvar! What have you been using in the meantime?

I have no idea why the site went down, but it's back up now. (Btw, powerpill is back in case you missed it.)

Re: Xyne's repos: news and discussion

Thanks Xyne.  Windows 7, I'm afraid.
I have a dead hard drive I need to RMA and once I do then I'll have my Win7/Arch/OS X triboot set up again (128GiB SSD for Win7/Arch, 1.5TiB HDD for Arch, 1.5TiB HDD for Win7, 3TiB HDD for shared data, 500GiB HDD for OS X).

Lately I've been compiling Android and doing some basic messing around with my Nexus 4...
A few ideas about making a package manager for it (pacman?) since the concept of one-size-fits-all "ROMs" makes more sense for non-Nexus software that are based off carrier software dumps.

Little busy with work and school but I'll try to get on the forums more, nice job on the moderator position!

Re: Xyne's repos: news and discussion

Xyne I love your utils and repos. Might you add gonvert? It's nice.

Utils don't all show icons in Openbox, possibly related to my bug report but I haven't looked in detail. Unibrow came to mind.

By the way what's the difference between unibrow and gucharmap if any? If you haven't tried the latter then by all means do.

For any interested, here's the link to that Python singleton idea you liked. I wish the wicd-gtk client would use it and many other Python tray utils.

Since I'm here and you're into Arch Science, I'll add a question you might help, see my report on scilab5-bin - if you have any ideas let me know.

Best

Re: Xyne's repos: news and discussion

@DaveCode
The repos currently on my site are reserved for my own packages. I've been playing with the idea of uploading all the AUR packages that I use to a separate repo (which would include gonvert) but so far I haven't done it, partly due to the upload size and how long it will take with my connection. Gonvert will be added to the arch-science repo once I finally find the time to push ahead with that.

As for unibrow vs gucharmap. I have no idea what the difference is because I have never seen gucharmap. Unibrow is in the category of apps that I wrote because I got sidetracked with some simple idea. It was around the time that I wrote the other pygtk apps on my site and I was just messing around.

Dealing with the python singleton idea is still on my list. I need to finish some other things first.

I have no idea about the scilab5-bin error. I would compare the scilab and scilab-bin packages and look for discrepancies in the dependencies and other settings. The normal scilab package is maintained by Stefan Husmann. In my experience, he is a good packager and I expect his scilab package to work.

Re: Xyne's repos: news and discussion

I keep getting this when trying to install pacserve. Thought it was a gpg issue, but I solved all issues with any other packages. Had to copy the .tar.gz from a machine that had at some point installed it with no problem. As a test, I deleted the file on that machine, and tried to reinstall, and got the same thing upon downloading.

error: pacserve: signature from "Xyne. (key #3) <xyne@archlinux.ca>" is invalid
:: File /var/cache/pacman/pkg/pacserve-2015-1-any.pkg.tar.xz is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)).

So my issue is solved, but I'd like to find out if I caused it myself or if it's something your end.

Re: Xyne's repos: news and discussion

It should be fixed now, although I don't know what happened. The local signature was correct so maybe it was corrupted during upload. Let me know if the problem reappears. Thanks!

pacserve now downloads from your repo just fine, but powerpill appears to be having the same issue. You may want to go through and check all of the packages on the repo?

Just a quick question, I use pbget as my aur helper. Do I need to change anything for the switch to aur4?

skanky, nothing needs to be done at the end-user's end for the aur4 migration.

Re: Xyne's repos: news and discussion

The python3-aur backend now points to aur4.archlinux.org. I'll update it again when Aur 4 moves (if necessary).

Incidentally, there is a forum thread for python3-aur (linked on the project page).

Missed that thread, sorry.
I'll just add though, many thnks for pbget and python3-aur stuff. I've found it ideal for my aur stuff.

I have no idea. My site itself has no such access restrictions and no one else has reported a similar problem. Any such prompt is from the domain host (and beyond my control). You need to determine what you or someone else may have done from your IP address to get blocked.

It went away on its own. I've only been using your repo via pacman, I haven't even visited your website in a while, so <shrugs>

Re: Xyne's repos: news and discussion

i couldn't find a way to open tickets or merge requests for relight, but FYI Xyne, I changed relight to also look for intel backlight:
```
acpi_video=(intel_backlight* acpi_video*)
```
also
```
shopt -s nullglob
```

otherwise it includes `acp_video*` as a literal option

Re: Xyne's repos: news and discussion

It already includes shopt -s nullglob. I don't see where you would add an array named "acpi_video". I haven't touched the code in a long time but a cursory check makes me think that it would be enough to change line 67 to

    for screen_ in /sys/class/backlight/{intel_backlight,acpi_video}*

Can you confirm?

Re: Xyne's repos: news and discussion

There's a minor bug that inconveniences me for a while now:

$ LC_ALL=C powerpill -Qu
error: invalid option '--sysupgrade'

It works correctly with pacman though.

I get that error occasionally, so I try resyncing and it works fine.

I get that error occasionally with mirrors of the official repos as well...
